Adi Sankara stands out as unique amongst the great men of the world given his diversified personality as a prolific writer, an intellectual philosopher and debater, an ardent devotee and mystic poet, or as a religious reformer and organizer. Adi Sankara consolidated the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta by the sixteenth year of his life with his classic commentaries on the Brahma-sutra, Srimad Bhagawadgita, the Upanishads, and other general works.
Thereafter, he undertook a spiritual conquest of the whole land of Bharat by travelling all over, destroying seventy-two unholy accretions and the other cults and establishing the Shanmatas on a proper footing. Thus his brief stay of only thirty-two years on this earth is packed with a series of achievements which are unequalled both in their content and variety.
He was indeed the Maha Parivrajaka and remains the essential idea behind this website. In this website, we attempt to deliver the Adi Sankara’s thoughts and teachings to the common man and the scholar alike, shorn of the distortions which appear to have crept in over a period of time. Adi Shankara cautioned against cherry picking a phrase or verse out of context from Vedic literature and this caution would equally apply to his own works as well. We follow His Holiness Swami Paramananda Bharati in our endeavour to arrive at such distortion-free interpretation.
